Clowes Developments, Homes England and Vistry Homes (Countryside) welcomed Chancellor Rachel Reeves to Fairham on Friday (February 14).

Fairham representatives including Thomas Clowes, Managing Director from Clowes Developments, Alison Crofton from Homes England and Phil McHugh from Vistry were invited to join the Chancellor on her visit to Vistry’s (Countryside Homes) residential development at Fairham, which is edging ever closer to completion.

Rachel Reeves visited the ongoing Fairham development on Friday on the back of a government announcement to speed up the delivery of new homes and promote the construction of new towns across the UK. The government says local councils and housebuilders submitted 350 projects to the ‘New Homes Accelerator’ programme, in which the Government will act as a broker between disputing parties to speed up the planning approval process.

Fairham, is set to be the East Midlands’ most significant mixed-use development, boasting world-class connectivity and a prime residential and commercial location. Located to the south of Nottingham, the 606 acre brand new neighbourhood will see the development of 3,000 homes, one million sq ft of employment, a thriving neighbourhood centre and 200 acres of parkland and green open space for its residents and workforce to enjoy. The site was selected for the ministerial visit coordinated by delivery partner and housing accelerator, Homes England.

Thomas Clowes, Managing Director at Clowes Developments commented,

“It was a pleasure to be able to host the Chancellor of the Exchequer at Fairham and be able to demonstrate to her what we’re trying to accomplish with such an important site for Rushcliffe, Nottingham City and the wider East Midlands region. The best way for the UK to tackle the housing crisis is with sustainable urban extensions like Fairham with the opportunities to provide not only housing but employment opportunities along with education and health provision. However, these sites take far too long to get through the appropriate planning stages and this is where the reform is drastically needed if we’re to start meeting housing targets. I’m grateful for the Chancellor showing an interest in our flagship scheme at Fairham and hope it might serve as an example for new sites coming forward.

The Chancellor also visited other sites in Nottinghamshire including Chetwynd Barracks in Chilwell. Chancellor Rachel Reeves says a long-awaited development at a Nottinghamshire barracks delivering 4,000 homes is “exactly” the kind of project she wants to unblock.
