Part L Compliance - What is it and how will it affect Fairham?

What is Part L Compliance?

Part L compliance refers to building standards that aim to improve the energy efficiency of new and existing buildings in the UK. Part L applies to both residential and commercial properties and sets out specific requirements, for example insulation, heating systems, ventilation and other things.

The Future Homes Standard will happen in two stages.

The full set of standards will come into effect in 2025, while the Part L Uplift element – which will deliver a 31% improvement on current sustainability and energy efficiency standards over 2013’s building regulations – takes effect from 15 June 2022. Building Regulations Part L covers the conservation of fuel and power in the building of new homes in England, and establishes how energy-efficient new and existing homes should be. The new Regulations are intended to halve the energy use in all new builds by 2030 as part of the Government’s commitment to achieve net zero builds by 2050.

Future Homes Hub was established to facilitate the collaboration needed within the new homes sector to help meet the climate and environmental challenges ahead. Their easy to use website offers great resources for those wanting to learn more about sustainability in homes with a comprehensive road map to help understand timescales and important next steps.
