A new junction is being built on Nottingham Road, just south of Clifton, as part of enabling works for the £800 million Fairham development.
Fairham, the new 606-acre neighbourhood for Nottingham, is creating 3,000 new homes and up to 2,000 new jobs for the region.
The works involve the closure of Nottingham Road from Monday 18 January to Sunday 28 February 2021 to enable the safe construction of a new staggered road junction to create access to the new development either side of the existing road and forms part of the longer term ambitions for traffic calming in the area.
As well as realigning the junction and the carriageway, there will be new drainage and watercourse infrastructure created as well as new routing for utilities. Due to the significance of the work, the whole road needs to be closed to ensure the safety of the workforce and to enable the work to be completed as quickly as possible.
There will be diversions in place for Nottingham Road from Gotham in the south and Clifton in the north for all vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, with signed diversions for cars, a designated cycle route and pedestrian access via the existing public right of way track through the fields to walk between Clifton and Gotham.
All motorised traffic will be re-routed via the A453 at the Gotham/Thrumpton junction coming from the south, east and west, and via the A453 at Crusader Island coming from the north.
Nottingham City Transport Bus Service 1 will be diverted during these works.

Fairham, to the south of Clifton, sits alongside the A453 Remembrance Way. It is also next to the NET tram terminus at Clifton South, has direct access to East Midlands Airport and is a 20 minute drive or tram ride from Nottingham city centre.
Fairham forms a key part of Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Local Plan and will help meet the borough’s housing need for 13,500 new homes over the next decade.
