As part of ongoing landscaping works at Fairham, 50 ornamental pear trees have been planted along the newly opened Fairham Way. This key route, which connects to Redrow’s Dovecote Grange development and the new staggered junction, now features a striking line of semi-mature trees, creating a scenic gateway into the heart of this brand-new neighbourhood.
The trees are the latest addition to Fairham’s carefully planned green infrastructure, designed by landscape architects Fira. Selected for their year-round visual appeal, the ornamental pear trees deliver a seasonal spectacle—bursting into brilliant white blossom in the spring and transforming into vivid orange-red foliage in the autumn.
While the trees do bear small fruits, they are not considered ‘productive’ fruit trees. The minimal fruit reduces common issues such as fallen debris on footpaths and the attraction of wasps, making them a practical yet visually rewarding choice for public spaces.
“The ornamental pear trees strike the perfect balance between aesthetic beauty and low maintenance,” Fira’s landscape architects, Dan Atchison explained. “They contribute to a tidy, vibrant environment without the complications of traditional fruit-bearing trees.”
This thoughtful landscaping reflects Fairham’s broader commitment to creating a high-quality, accessible, and attractive public realm—where nature, people, and place work in harmony. As the development grows, these trees will become an integral part of a maturing landscape, enhancing the experience for residents, visitors, and local wildlife alike.
Fairham is set to become the East Midlands’ most significant mixed-use development, offering world-class connectivity alongside exceptional residential and commercial opportunities. Local developer Clowes Developments—one of the UK’s largest privately-owned property companies—is delivering the project in partnership with Homes England, the Government’s housing and regeneration agency.
Located to the south of Nottingham, Fairham spans 606 acres and will include 3,000 new homes, one million sq ft of employment space, a vibrant neighbourhood centre, and 200 acres of parkland and open green space for the community to enjoy.
